Major Commission

  • Appointed member of the Bristol Legacy Commission (BLC) in 2008 as a Community Commissioner with special responsibility for public and community engagement.  The BLC was established to take forward the Abolition 200 work started in 2007 to bring change in the three priority areas of Cultural Representation, Education and Young People, Health and Well Being.  Sits on a special bid assessment committee.

  • African Voices Forum Education Project 2008-2009 with funding from the Bristol City Council.

  • Press Freedom Forum Series Project 2006(Ethiopia)-2007(Sri Lanka)-2008( Belarus)—with Funding from Open Society Institute, London, UK

CONFERENCE PROJECTS CO-ORDINATED

  • Secretary General and Convener of the 26th International Peace Research Association General Conference on AGENDA FOR PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT organised in Freetown, Sierra Leone  27th November and 1st December. The cost of this conference was $ US300,000, half of which was raised from local and international donors, including the World Bank. 
  • International Peace Research Association 25th General Conference in Istanbul  Turkey August 14-20  2014 as  co-secretary general
  • African Voices and Global Justice conference and workshops on ‘Education for All’ at the Council House in Bristol on March 28 2009 as Secretary General of the African Voices Forum
  • 15-23 2009 UNESCO Day and Africa Week series of knowledge exchange activities in Bristol, including arts exhibition, film show, funding surgeries, cultural bonanza and fashion show as Secretary General of the African Voices Forum 
  • Education Without Borders’ conference during refugee week June 2010 at UWE exhibition and conference centre organised by RMS Hub  as Senior Research Fellow and Project Manager
  • Co-convener: Peace Journalism Commission call for papers at ‘Communicating Peace’ Sydney IPRA Conference July 6-10 2010
  • Co-convener: Peace Journalism Commission call for papers at ‘Communicating Peace’ Japan IPRA conference November 24-28, 2012 
  • Co-convener: Refugees in Higher Education call for papers at Human Rights Day conference on 10th December 2009 jointly organised by the UWE Human Rights Unit and the UWE RMS Hub.
  • Convener of Global Ethics and The Media panel at Global Ethics Conference at UWE on June 28-29 2010

 

CONSULTANCIES

  • Researcher and author of Asylum Seekers and Refugees (Second Edition, 2010) FAQs, Myths and the Facts. Consultancy work commissioned by the Bristol City Council and carried out by the University of the West of England Refugee and Migrant Support Hub.
